Pharmacognosy is a discipline related with separation of medicines from plants, animals and minerals. It needs a complete understanding of botany, chemistry, quality control and pharmacology of medicines from natural sources. Development of herbal drugs is done by amalgamating the traditional knowledge, modern science and modern technologies. The department of Pharmacognosy is engaged in imparting knowledge in the various fields of natural medicinal products through theoretical and practical mediums. The department is well equipped with an undergraduate research laboratory, a crude drug museum & herbarium specimens of several plant materials; and modern equipments essential for extraction and isolations of natural medicinal products.

Dr. Mohd Rafiq is working as Professor and H.O.D in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry. He is having 13.5 Years of Teaching Experience. He published 12 research Papers in various national and International journals. He is a member of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India. His area of expertise includes Isolation, Characterization and screening of various phytoconstituents from various medicinal plants and standardization of herbal formulations. He is recognized co-guide of JJTu University for Ph.D Progrrammes.

Mr. Syed Zakir Hussain

Mr. Syed Zakir Hussain is a dedicated and accomplished pharmaceutical academic with over 20 years of progressive teaching experience, culminating in his current role as Associate Professor. He holds an M.Pharm in Pharmacognosy (First Class) and is a registered Ph.D. scholar. His career includes significant tenures as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Assistant Professor, during which he taught a wide range of subjects including Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Clinical Pharmacy across D.Pharm and B.Pharm programs.

Mr. Syed Zakir Hussain has actively contributed to academia through organizing national science camps, participating in numerous conferences and AICTE workshops, and serving in key institutional roles such as Cultural Committee Convenor and Hostel Warden. He is a lifelong member of APTI and a registered pharmacist with the Karnataka State Pharmacy Council. Seeking an Associate Professor position, he aims to leverage his extensive experience in curriculum development, student mentorship, and academic leadership to foster educational excellence.
